2026 PhillyCAM Board of Directors Candidate, Aaron Brokenbaugh Jr.

Aaron Brokenbaugh Jr.

Aaron Brokenbough is a filmmaker, writer, and media producer whose work moves at the intersection of art, culture, and community. Working across documentary, narrative, and journalistic forms, he centers underrepresented voices and place-based storytelling. As a contributing writer for The Philly Download, he has profiled local creatives with a documentarian’s eye, blending reportage with cultural reflection. In 2025, he co-produced Defining Safety, a pop-up video confessional installation at LOVE Park that invited Philadelphians to share unscripted reflections on joy, justice, and belonging. With more than a decade of experience in commercial and independent production, Aaron is committed to building equitable, community-rooted media infrastructures that preserve cultural memory and expand creative power.

Aaron’s Candidate Statement

As a Black queer person from a working-class background, I live at the intersections of many of the identities represented within PhillyCAM’s membership. That lived experience shapes how I move through the world and how I show up in community spaces—with empathy, curiosity, and a deep commitment to collective care. As a practicing filmmaker, I navigate the realities of today’s media landscape every day. I understand firsthand the challenges members face: accessing resources, sustaining income, and building networks that genuinely support long-term growth. Because I am actively working within these conditions, I have a clear and current understanding of what creators need from a community like PhillyCAM—not just to participate, but to truly prosper. I would bring to the board both representation and practical insight, grounded in lived experience and ongoing creative work. I am committed to helping ensure PhillyCAM remains a welcoming, responsive, and empowering space where diverse creators feel supported, valued, and equipped to thrive.
