Brian Gibbs - February Member of the Month

My earliest memories are of sitting on crates of records while my father Deejayed.  My childhood was spent hanging out at my dad's record store,The Sound of Norristown, meeting all of the major music artists from the 80's and 90's.   My first introduction to television came during college at Temple University when I was asked to host a TV show, "Live on Stage", that featured urban music videos and interviews.  "Live on Stage" lasted a few years but the cinematic bug stayed with me much longer.

I worked for several years in marketing for Universal Music Distribution and Alloy Worldwide, and as a Dj with residencies at the Soul Sanctuary in Philadelphia and Touch in NYC.   I am currently attending Full Sail University online for Internet Marketing where I am learning to use my skills in Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4d and After Effects to produce SEO content and manage web marketing campaigns.

"The Record Shop" came about when my dad, Marty, started diversifying his record store to compensate for lagging sales due to digital downloading and he asked me to help produce a video series on the open mic he was hosting on thursdays on the second floor of the record shop.  We heard of PhillyCAM from someone who knew someone who knew someone and decided to give it a try.  That was two years ago.  It turns out that helping to produce a tv show is a lot more involved than I had ever  imagined.  We taped segments at venues all around Philadelphia but found that the challenges of trying to ensure quality sound and footage in a club or bar were more than we could handle.  The solution was forthcoming when PhillyCAM made their space on Vine Street available and the format of the show has remained the same ever since.  We taped nine more bands on three different occasions at the Vine Street studio and we've had several tapings in new studio space.

"The Record Shop" tapes and airs bands doing what they do best, performing.  The show has come along way thanks to more than a little help from everyone at PhillyCAM and the resources they provide.  I've completed "Intro to Video Digital Production", the "TV Studio Production Crew Workshop" and the "Production Management Workshop".  "The Record Shop" has gone from one camera shoots, to two cameras and now with my completion of the Studio and Production workshops we will be helping bands find their audience on PhillyCAM with three cameras in a state of the art studio.
