Dr. Will Heyward - September Member of the Month

About 10 years ago, a dear friend Rev. Betty McCormick (Social Worker at Presbyterian Children's Village) gave Dr. Heyward a transition workbook from her job.  Rev. McCormick challenged him to insert some Bible verses in that workbook.   The workbook was revised and later rewritten for Dr. Heyward's grandson with special needs.

When the workbook was completed, Rev. McCormick called Dr. Heyward early one morning, but before Dr. Heyward could tell her that the work was completed she said goodbye and later passed away.

Anointed Builders of Character came to be as Dr. Heyward gathered a few pages for his grandson with special needs. Dr. Heyward inadvertently compiled enough material for a character-building workbook, but it was too much material for any child to absorb. Rather than publishing the workbook, it was re-written for a television series. "Carol the Puppet Lady" (Rev. Carol Sloan) of Peculiar Treasure Outreach Ministries/Upper Darby lends her puppets as they appear throughout each episode of the Anointed Builders of Character series. The first in this series of episodes
will be aired in September on PhillyCAM. Dr. Heyward hopes to make this television series multi-cultural; like a Bible-based Sesame Street program.

Back in 1979, Dr. & Mrs. Heyward used their Germantown home as a Youth Outreach Ministry and together they founded Pentecostal Youth For Christ, Inc.  Dr. Heyward received an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree in 1982 from The Philadelphia Evangelistic Bible School and is also the retired Pastor of Glad Tidings Church of God In Christ.  He has written 27 gospel tracts, and some have been translated into Spanish.

While he is careful about taking the credit for his project, Dr. Heyward encourages others to take the spotlight and get in front of the camera.
