Daphnee Vieux July of the Month

It is such an amazing honor and privilege to be the July member of the month. And to receive such accolade from PhillyCAM, an organization which amplified my love for behind-the-scenes television production is what I call “icing on the cake.”

In 2007, I graduated Temple University with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. Based on my dad’s incessant request to pursue teaching or news reporting while I was in high school, I chose the latter as the pay scale for teachers made me wince (Teachers really don’t get paid enough to do what they do)! Armed with four years of journalistic hypothetical scenarios, theories and bombarding pleas from my teachers to steer clear of plagiarism, the time came for my first on-camera reporting assignment and……. I hated it! No, really, I HATED it! My hair didn’t look right, my smile inauthentic, teeth not as straight as I would’ve liked them to be and my brain freezes when the red light came on, EPIC! I knew I loved television production but standing in front of the lens of a camera was not, by any stretch of the imagination, my calling.

After years of laying my love of production to the side, I wanted to get back into it but didn’t know how. While in the midst of a deep conversation with a church friend about my goals and aspirations of becoming an Executive Producer for a nationally syndicated television show, he began to tell me about PhillyCAM. Having never heard of Philadelphia’s community access station, I researched it and soon thereafter became a member.

From the orientation, I knew PhillyCAM was where I needed to be in order to reach my career goals. I dare say, I learned more from the hands-on training format about television production there than I did throughout my college experience. Teachers with immense patience like Charles Gregory instilled in me skills I now take on the road as I travel all over the United States as a Producer and camera operator.

Today I am proud to be part of productions like We Talk Weekly (formerly known as Talk the Talk), What’s Your Point of View?, In Search of Knowledge, The HypeLiving the Vision with Lady GProject STEAM TV and Philadelphia Television Awards.

Lastly, the family and networking opportunities which have derived from my connections at PhillyCAM have been and are still boundless. I love my PCAM family!

I couldn’t be more proud to be part of PhillyCAM!

With much love,

Daph
