PhillyCAM is excited to partner with Trudy Haynes to offer a 6-week Reporting Fellowship to support members in developing storytelling, interviewing and research skills, preparing them to do field reporting for radio and television.
The Fellowship is open to all PhillyCAM members. The selection of the participants will be made by a small review committee.
During the Fellowship, participants will attend master classes with working journalists, including Trudy Haynes and others to be determined.
Topics to be covered:
• Story Development
• Research and fact-checking
• Identifying and Contacting sources
• Live event coverage
• Distribution/Promotion and Impact
Over the course of the workshop, students will identify an idea they want to develop into a news story for either television or radio. They will then be paired with a videographer and an editor to support with the production of their story. If students are producing for radio, they will be paired with an audio producer.
Students will be expected to spend about 4-6 hours outside of class working on their stories. All completed stories will be included on PhillyCAM Voices, PhillyCAM’s monthly community news show or The Breakdown, WPPM’s community news program. Upon completion, students will be expected to support as ongoing contributors to PhillyCAM Voices or The Breakdown.
Upon completing the program, fellows will receive a $150. stipend.
