This project based workshop will support students in creating a short video to be included in a 30 minute collage-style Termite TV Show on the theme of Mending. The final show will be presented on PhillyCAM and also exhibited at Cherry Street Pier, as part of Termite TV’s programming.
Termite TV (https://termite.org/) is a collective of video makers who have used the thematic TV show model to create experimental collage-style explorations on a theme. In a jazz-like collaboration, producers contribute content from different perspectives and visual styles. Examples of past work can be seen here.
How It Works:
This workshop will function like a collaborative production lab where each participant will create their own short project or choose to collaborate with another member of the group. Experimentation is encouraged! Together, the pieces produced will be woven together to be part of a 30 minute program. This workshop will be offered in tandem with other members of Termite TV also producing work on the theme, and there will be a few opportunities to give feedback and brainstorm together throughout the process, offering bridges to connect with makers locally and throughout the country. The theme of Mending can be interpreted in many ways- from upcycling discarded items and giving them new life to addressing relationships that need repair. The theme could expand to include theories of material science, conservation, craft or ways that new life and solutions can come from something that needs repair or attention.
Eligibililty:
Participants should have a basic foundation of videography and editing. Support will be provided in person on designated days throughout production. There will be an opportunity to receive training on our new FX30 Field kits for members who already have BFP or Grab n Go training. This workshop is open to the public, if you have your own equipment. If you need to access PhillyCAM equipment, you will need to be an active member. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will receive a 1-year membership to PhillyCAM and an invitation to contribute to future Termite TV projects.
Dates:
The workshop will take place on Saturdays in person at PhillyCAM from 11-1pm. Sessions will also be help on Thursday nights via Zoom. *see full schedule below.
The second session on February 7th will take place at Cherry Street Pier in partnership with a larger group of media producers contributing work to the program.
