Philadelphia Celebrates Juneteenth - PhillyCAM Is Closed

Remember Juneteenth Celebrate
Friday, June 19, 2020 (All day)

This year for the first time, Juneteenth is an official holiday in Philadelphia. Mayor Jim Kenney signed an Executive Order closing city offices and facilities in observance of Juneteenth, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

In the spirit of solidarity and a continued commitment to anti-racism, PhillyCAM will also be closed on Friday, June 19.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the date when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation which had formally freed all African Americans in the Confederate states two and a half years earlier.
