June Member of the Month, Matt Kornfeld

I came to PhillyCAM, specifically radio, to awaken a part of me that had been dormant for many years. I studied radio at Buffalo  State College in the 90s and just wanted to learn, help, and be a part of something. 

I was called from the midst of a life crisis to produce a radio special on the healing effect/power of music. With Allison's help, a lot of willingness, and patience, I produced five one-hour specials with live in-studio (or remote) guests and field recordings, all focused on how people use music to heal themselves and the world.

Then the unthinkable happened: I was invited to play a music set. It was a dream come true. I've been making mix tapes for myself and others my whole life. I got to go to the studio, play records, and talk about my connection to them - truly a thrill for me! Not long after, I just had to do it again, and that's when I was encouraged to apply for a regular show.

I hope to turn people on to new music and provide local musicians with a way to get their sounds out there, free from the entanglements of corporate greed and politics. I hope to inspire people to be creative as I allow myself to indulge in the creative action of the spirit.
