Mary Luz Marques

Atrévete is an audiovisual platform whose objective is to highlight the experiences of resilience, transformation, and empowerment of our Latino community. Producing these types of stories –which many times are not heard in the mainstream mass media– has helped me to highlight the cultural richness of our immigrant peoples. For me, Philadelphia reflects that multicultural mosaic through cultural celebrations and gastronomy, among other themes.

Rosalba Esquivel Cote

Atrevete gave me the opportunity to meet talented and entrepreneurial people. It led me to discover the art of visual communication and to discover new ways to grow. It was exciting to put a voice and an image to those stories that needed to be told; The responsibility is great, as is the excitement of creating and having the opportunity to share what is valuable from the Latino community in Philadelphia and its surroundings.

 Latinx Fellowes

PhillyCAM offered a Spanish language journalism fellowship for emerging community reporters.
10 Fellows learned storytelling and video production skills and produced short segments for social media and for Atreveté, PhillyCAM's bilingual community news program. This initiative aims to build stronger bridges for content distribution and collaborative production amplifying local Latinx stories and information in the region. The Fellowship was supported by The Independence Public Media Foundation.
