Bea Joyner - March Member of the Month

February 29, 2016

Thanks PhillyCAM for making me member of the month!

One of the strongest human needs is to tell our stories and PhillyCAM is allowing me to do that. I turned my love of photography into an exhibit entitled "In Search of Knowledge" to make history come alive for children and adults. PhillyCAMhas allowed me to expand it to a TV show to make our history a living history rather than just a list of names and facts of people in the past.

Although I had no experience in producing a TV series, PhillyCAM has supported me and allowed me to become part of the community here. And it really is a community! I will be completing my third season of "In Search of Knowledge" but it wouldn’t have been possible without EVERYONE! The staff allows me to bug them about editing, properly rendering the final version and other necessary details over and over! I am especially grateful to my fellow members who are always willing and able to help in unbelievable ways!

And I have been able to add another title to my resume because of this support, documentary film maker! With lots of help and assistance I was able to produce, “Oneness: A Black Catholic’s Journey” which is available on PhillyCAM’s website.

PhillyCAM needs all of us to succeed and there are so many ways to help out. I constantly see people helping each other with technical and/or emotional support when needed. It is not uncommon to see people working on other members’ shows. I try to do my part by telling everyone what a valuable asset this station is to the City of Philadelphia and I testified at the hearings to increase the funding.

My goal is to touch lives to improve our communities. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to change my series of parenting classes, "How To Survive Your Child's Adolescence With Your Sanity Intact!" into a weekly program. With PhillyCAM anything is possible!
